Noche San Juan 2019

One more year comes the shortest night of the year, San Juan, to all Spanish cities. This year the celebration that welcomes the summer will be celebrated on Sunday, June 23, two days after the summer solstice.

This night is associated with magic and mysticism, where the main element par excellence is fire, which becomes bonfires populating all the Andalusian coasts. Tradition dictates that you have to get your feet wet on the seashore and throw into the fire all you want to leave behind written on a piece of paper. The amulets also take a special role in this celebration.

The celebrations are distributed throughout the Spanish geography, and the cities that have beaches, to the cities in the interior of the Peninsula are clearly differentiated. Firecrackers and bonfires flood the Mediterranean beaches, while in Galicia, for example, the stars of the party are the queimadas. In the capital, even if there is no beach, neighbors set up their own fires to jump and burn everything we want to leave behind.

In Malaga, everyone will celebrate this party until late at night with music, food, drinks, and dancing. The party usually starts around 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. when the sun and heat begin to disappear and barbecues and sardines start to appear. Concerts and events will be held on the most popular beaches of the Costa del Sol for the enjoyment of all citizens.
